Official Mexican Government Apology

WHO: The Government of Mexico issues formal letter of apology to Miss USA Rachel Smith and People of the United States.

WHAT: Two Los Angeles residents demanded and received a formal apology over treatment of Miss USA in Mexico.

WHEN: Apology demand letter delivered to Consul General on June 1, 2007. Letter of apology dated July 10th.

WHERE:  Los Angeles, California
  

Following the national news that Miss USA Rachel Smith had been subjected to Boos and Heckling at the Miss Universe contest held in Mexico, David Hernandez and Ted Hayes began a campaign to secure a formal apology from the Mexican Government.

The campaign began with a Press Conference at Macarthur Park in Los
Angeles and then moved onto the Mexican Consulate. 

In an unscheduled visit to the Consulate, Hernandez and Hayes accompanied by several members of Choose Black America, hand delivered a letter demanding the apology to Ms Smith.

In addition to Ms Smith, an apology was demanded on behalf of Americans as Ms. Smith was representing the USA, she was an Ambassador of the people of the United States.


The letter addressed to Consul General of Mexico in Los Angeles, Ruben Beltran was sent on to the Mexican Government for review and resolution.

Hernandez and Hayes are appreciative of the co operation received from the Mexican Consul General in processing the request.

The letter of Apology addressed to Mr. Hayes was signed by Gabriel Szekley, Chief of Staff, Secretaria De Tursimo.

The letter will be forwarded on to Miss Smith following a press conference to be held at the Mexican Consulate August 16th.

Consul General Beltran will be invited to attend the Press conference so he and his Government can be thanked publicly.

Notice of the Apology has been sent on to the Miss Universe Organization and to Miss USA Rachel Smith.
